Game Recap

The Seneca baseball team defeated Walhalla, 9-3, Friday night. The win moves the Bobcats to 10-1 on the year and 4-0 in region play. Bryson Whaley had another strong performance on the mound, getting the win, and moving to 5-0 for the season. The junior allowed only 3 hits, and only struck 1, relying heavily on his defense throughout the night. The Bobcat defense failed Whaley several times on the night, putting him in some jams, but Whaley showed a ton of grit, allowing only 3 runs to score (1 earned) in 5 innings of work. Junior, Jack Fassino, relieved Whaley in the 6th, and tossed 2 scoreless innings, giving up 0 hits, and striking out 3.
The Bobcats offense was a little slow to get started, but put up crooked numbers in the 5th, 6th, and 7th to give Whaley and Fassino a little breathing room. Senior, Tristen Hudson, opened up the scoring in the top of the 1st, with a home-run over the right field fence. Fassino almost made it back-to-back, with a shot off of the left-center wall, resulting in a double, and he was left stranded at 2nd base. Walhalla answered in the bottom of the first, after James Hanvey led off with a walk, and eventually came around to score.
The score would remain 1-1 through 3 innings, but in the top of the 4th, Whaley hit a hard ground ball to shortstop, forcing a error and scoring Trent Stegall from third to give the Bobcats the lead. Walhalla would again answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, to tie things back up at 2. From that point on, it was all Bobcats.
Seneca would plate 3 in the top of the 5th, thanks to an RBI double from Hudson, and then a 2 RBI single from senior, Cayde Hamilton. Hudson added another RBI to his total on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th. The Bobcats would again plate 2 more insurance runs in the 7th, thanks to RBI singles from both Coleman Smith and Furman Wilson.
Seneca returns to action on Tuesday, March 28th, as they host the 9th ranked 5A team in the state, TL Hanna. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm at Coach Mac Field.
