Recently Jimmy Towe, Seneca’s Girls Varsity basketball coach, was interviewed about the upcoming 2016-2017 season. His expectations for this season are simply “for every player to work hard and be prepared for the new region schedule.” Coach Towe is very pleased with the coaching staff he is blessed with. The coach staff includes Daniel Spencer, Brandy Lewis, Icey Patterson, and Bradley Martin. Towe says he is “fortunate” to have such great and experienced coaches. For example, Icey Patterson is a former player and who still holds several records in the program and was a successful college player. Coach Towe says that a good relationship with his players is important. He says “team chemistry is one of the most important aspects of the game.” He is very please with the players he has this year because they ” are happy to be together on and off the court and are fun to be around.” Towe gives his seniors the opportunity to lead the team. When asked how the seniors attitudes and relationships with each other affect the team, he openly expresses that “the example the seniors set, sets the tone for the dressing room and other players in the dressing room.” He is extremely proud of the senior’s leadership this year. But, he says that ” you don’t have to be a senior to lead, but the older player’s examples will determine a lot of things that are important for the team.” The girls began scrimmaging November 21st, starting with their Thanksgiving tournament. Towe says that they have been able to scrimmage some very talented teams to “give our girls an opportunity to work against excellent competition.” He says “this helps them realize how far they needed to go and how hard they needed to work to get there.” He is very please and excited to see what the future holds for this team and their season.
