Game Recap

The Seneca offense got off to a quick start again Monday night against West-Oak in their 2nd game of the Mountain Lakes Preseason Tournament. Thanks to back-to-back-to-back doubles from Coleman Smith, Walker Lathrop, and Tristen Hudson, followed by an RBI single from Jack FassinSo, the Bobcats found themselves ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. That would prove to be all the run support junior righty Bryson Whaley would need, as he dealt 5.1 innings of 2 hit baseball, allowing only 1 run with 4 strikeouts and a walk. Coleman Smith finished the game for his 2nd save of the season, without allowing a single hit in his 1.2 innings of work. Walker Lathrop and Coleman Smith had their 2nd multi-hit game of the season. Jack Fassino also added two hits of his own. The Bobcats were scheduled to return to action in Day 3 of the Mountain Lakes Preseason Tournament, Wed. March 1. Those games have been cancelled due to the threat of severe storms in the area. Games have been rescheduled for Thursday March 2. Pickens will take on West-Oak at 5, with Seneca battling Crescent for a spot in the championship game after that. Both games are at Seneca.

Game Recap

The Bobcat baseball team opened up the regular season, and the Mountain Lakes Preseason Tournament with a 5-4 win over Pickens. Led by freshman outfielder Walker Lathrop, who was 2-3 with 2 triples on the night, Seneca jumped out to an early 5-0 lead through 4 innings off Pickens starter Jonathan Ford. Pickens mounted a come back, scoring 4 runs of their own in the top of the 5th off of sophomore Ryan Moore in his 3rd inning of work. Tristen Hudson made his return to the diamond from the court with 2 scoreless innings of work on the mound, and 2 RBIs on 2 sacrifice flies. Coleman Smith and Petey Ridley also helped sparked the Bobcat offensive attack with 2 hits of their own. Coleman Smith recorded the save, but not before the Blue Flame created some excitement in the top of the 5th. With a runner on 2nd, and 2 outs, Galloway ripped a single into centerfield, but Walker Lathrop came up big for the Bobcats and connected with a diving Petey Ridley to tag out Jonathan Ford trying to score from 2nd for the final out of the game. The Bobcats return to action in their 2nd game of the Mountain Lakes Preseason Tournament at home vs. West-Oak, on Monday February 27 at 5 pm.
