Game Recap

The Bobcats advance to the Upper State Championship, and in the driver’s seat, with a 7-2 victory over Mid-Carolina in Prosperity on Saturday. Seneca struck first in the top of the first. After walks by Matthew Burgess and Tristen Hudson, Walker Lathrop hit a rope down the 3rd base line for 2 out RBI single. Mid-Carolina answered with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Then with 1 out in the top of the 2nd, Riley Fletcher stepped up and hammered the first pitch he saw over the left center wall to tie the game up at 2. The game would remain there for 3 more innings before the Bobcats would bust it up and seal the win.

After Lathrop walked to lead off the top of the 6th, Coleman Smith laid down a bunt to move him to 2nd. Petey Ridley then hit a ball off the left center wall for a double, which advanced Lathrop to 3rd. Then with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, Fletcher came up big again, and broke the tie, with a line drive to center field, scoring Lathrop from 3rd. Senior, Cayde Hamilton followed with a line drive to center of his own to score Trent Stegall who was running for Ridley. Furman Wilson walked, and then a single by Burgess loaded the bases for Jack Fassino. The junior 3rd baseman did what he has done all year long for the Cats and drove a ball deep into the right center gap for a bases clearing triple.

The 5 run 6th would prove to be more than enough for starting pitcher Tristen Hudson. The senior righty settled in after giving up to in the first to keep the Rebels off the scoreboard. Hudson allowed 6 hits, and 2 runs in 6 innings of work, while striking out 7. Coleman Smith was the anchor out of the pen for Seneca in the 7th. Smith did what he has done all year long, and tossed a perfect inning to clinch the win.

Mid-Carolina defeated Powdersville 4-3 Monday night in a elimination game. With the win, the Rebels will have to travel to Seneca to play for the Upper State Championship. The Rebels will have to try to beat the Bobcats twice Wednesday night, to keep Seneca from winning the Upper State Championship. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 pm, with Game 2 to immediately follow if necessary.

Game Recap

After traveling to Woodruff for a second day in a row, and playing through some light rain for the majority of the evening, the Seneca offense left little up to question in Friday night’s 20-4 win over Woodruff in the first game of the Upper State tournament. The Bobcats totaled 19 hits on the evening, led by 4 each from Tristen Hudson and Petey Ridley. The 20 runs give the Bobcats a total of 48 runs in their 4 playoff games.

While the bats continue to stay hot, their pitching and defense as continued to be as strong as it has been all season. Sophomore, Ryan Moore, picked up the win Friday night. Through his 5 innings of work, Moore allowed only 4 hits and 1 earned run (2 unearned), while striking out 6 and walking none. In those same 4 playoff games, the Cats have only allowed their opponents to cross home 10 times.

The win moves Seneca into the winners bracket of the tournament. They will travel to Mid-Carolina in Prosperity, SC for game two. The game is scheduled for Saturday May 6 at 5 pm. Come out and support your Bobcats in a big playoff matchup.

Game Recap

Thanks to a hot start offensively, led by a Jack Fassino grand slam in the bottom of the 2nd, and a solid start from Tristen Hudson on the mound, your Seneca Bobcats are the 2017 District 1 Champions. After Fassino’s 2 out, full count bomb, the Bobcats found themselves sitting pretty comfortably in the lead at 6-0. However, the offense was stalled a little bit from that point on. Hudson, with probably his biggest lead of the season, kept the Chapman offense at bay in his 6 innings of work. Hudson scattered 5 hits, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs while striking out 5 in his 6 innings of work. Coleman Smith, came in in the 7th and struck out the final batter of game to seal the victory for Seneca. Smith also had two hits on the night.

The Championship win makes that back-to-back District Championships for the first time in program history. The boys will travel to Woodruff for their first game in the Upper State Tournament on Thursday, April 4th, weather permitting. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
