Thanks to a gutsy, complete game performance from senior right-hander, Bryson Whaley, the Bobcats defeated Pendleton 7-2 Thursday night to advance in the winner’s bracket of the Upper State Tournament. Whaley scattered 9 hits across his 7 innings of work, minimizing the damage of the Bulldog offense, and stranding runners on base in big moments. The biggest of the night came with Seneca up 6-2 in the bottom of the 6th, 3 singles loaded the bases for Pendleton. Whaley forced a pop out to the catcher, Petey Ridley, a strikeout, and then a routine fly ball to center fielder Coleman Smith to end the threat.
Offensively, the highlights of the night were solo home runs by Riley Fletcher and Matthew Burgess. Burgess also added a RBI double in the top of the 7th. Jack Fassino added two hits and an RBI and Furman Wilson had 3 hits.
The Bobcats advance to host Indian Land, Saturday May 5th for a chance to advance the the Upper State Title game.
